NIUX Australia
Case study
Nuix, a leading provider of investigative analytics and intelligence software, partnered with Codesign + Sheldon to deliver their new head office at 1 Market Street in Sydney’s CBD.
Spanning two levels and centred around a feature staircase, the construction team balanced complex requirements with Nuix’s ESG and social procurement priorities. Through close coordination with an external design partner, Sheldon + Codesigns internal delivery and services met the challenge and overcame various logistical challenges to deliver a cohesive, inspired workplace on time and within budget.
Level 30 - Work Floor & Collaboration Zone
As visitors, and employees ascend the feature staircase, they’re greeted by more sweeping views of the cbd and an expansive collaboration zone with a custom table shaped in the form of Nuix’s branded “X.” This distinctive piece serves as a central feature for events, positioned conveniently beside the kitchen.
Level 30 contains an open plan workfloor and a range of meeting rooms that balance focus and interaction. The standout is the boardroom room at the top of the stairs, defined by a custom lighting rig that reflects Nuix’s signature brand identity.
Level 29 - Experience Centre
Spread across 1,600sqm, Nuix’s workplace occupies Levels 29 and 30, with the lower level designed to leave a lasting first impression. Serving as an immersive experience centre for visitor's level 29 delivers an impactful introduction to the brand with incredible city views and the standout feature staircase on full display.
Adjacent to the main entry, a fully equipped showroom adds thefinal touch, providing a flexiblesetting for presentations and events.
Fully Custom Interlinking Staircase Built by Internal Teams
Delivering a Feature Staircase
The feature staircase at Nuix serves as the centrepiece of the fitout, a bold architectural element that demanded meticulous planning and coordination between Sheldon’s internal divisions, the design team, Asentis (staircase contractor), and base building management. At 1 Market Street, a busy commercial building, the staircase steel had to be split into smaller prefabricated sections to fit the lift and reach Level 29, requiring constant coordination with building management to keep building operations running smoothly and disruption to a minimum.
Work commenced with cutting the pre-tensioned concrete slabs into 26 trenches, carefully slicing through the embedded reo bars and backfilling with a two-part epoxy concrete mix. A catch deck was installed under the stair opening, and 700 x 700 mm slab sections were removed over three night shifts by Ald Demolition to allow safe steel installation. The six-section steel staircase was installed in just two days, with finishing touches delivered by Asentis and 3YN Tiling to achieve a premium, seamless result. The project’s success was made possible by the coordinated efforts of Sheldon’s electrical, mechanical, partitioning, and construction teams, delivering a complex installation that fully meets Nuix’s ESG and sustainability standards.
Proven to Deliver
Similarly to the feature staircase installation, this project overall relied on steady communication between Sheldon’s construction, services, and manufacturing divisions. Complex works, including PT truncations, beam installations, and close coordination with the base building engineer, required detailed planning and this approach extended beyond just the structural elements. Joinery, electrical, and partitioning teams all workedtogether to strengthen the external design vision while introduce innovative materials and construction solutions throughout delivery. The result is a distinctive landmark space in the heart of the Sydney CBD, fully equipped for hosting events, large staff gatherings, walkthroughs and everyday office use.
